When students indicate their preferences (industry, location, major, etc.), the software’s matching engine presents students with a list of mentors who match the students’ criteria. Students can then request up to two potential mentors.

We have deliberately limited the career field categories because too many choices can hamper the matching process. For instance, if the career fields were more extensive, then fewer advisors on average will match the criterion and show up on the "results" list of students. Please select the career field that is the closest match. There is also a Specific Career Field. In addition, you can always specify your occupation more clearly in your profile.

Official mentoring relationships typically last between 3 - 4 months, but participants may choose to maintain contact informally beyond that point.

IMPact follows an open registration model, meaning that mentees can register and request a mentoring relationship at any time.

If you don't receive a prompt response (either accepting or declining) to your request, you can cancel one or both requests, and search for a different mentor.

You may have up to two active mentors at a time. If one or both of your requested mentors do not respond (by either declining or accepting your request) you may cancel one or both requests and choose another mentor or mentors.

We are grateful for your willingness to help students in this way. After you register for this Mentoring program, it could take some time before you are matched with a student, since this is a student-driven program. In the meantime, please keep in mind that you are free to search for and contact other mentors through this Mentoring program. Connections can be made through shared personal or professional interests.
