Industry Mentoring for Physicists

The APS Industry Mentoring for Physicists (IMPact) program connects APS student and early career members with industrial physicists around the world for career guidance, professional development, and insight into physics careers beyond academia.

IMPact mentoring relationships are meant to be short-term, with mentors and mentees setting a timeline that fits their goals and deciding a meeting cadence that works for them to discuss careers, industry pathways, and professional skills.

Both mentors and mentees must be APS members to participate, but the first year of APS membership is free for students, with discounted rates after that, and for undergraduate and graduate students.

As a mentor, the IMPact program will help you share your experiences with students, develop long-lasting relationships, and enjoy a rewarding volunteer opportunity.

Students and early-career physicists

IMPact can help mentees prepare for the real world by connecting them with industrial physicists who can provide advice, information, and guidance in pursuing a career in industry.
